"THE ENDLESS ROAD"

Severine Langon
BSIT 1-6

Sometimes Tyrone used to wonder that one day he will be rich and famous. As a young kid of five (5) years old he would stare into the open sky and make a wish upon the stars. He would wish for better education for him that will soon qualify him to a better employment, and he will be rich and famous. However, things did not work out the way it should.
His high school years were less dramatic. After spending two (2) years in Pre-school, he was accepted to further his studies at Sarakata Primary School. The year was 1994 and this school was lacking proper architecture and the teachers were less educated. He remembers at least all of his teachers at that time were not degree holders. That did not surprise him because in his country, only a few individual have gain a bachelor, and some to the extent of gaining a master degree. This occurs to the reason that, the majority of the population are classified as “third class”, meaning what they earned for living is just not enough to bring their kids to academic stage most promising. They only have the money to satisfy their starvation and shelter their bodies. Though his school had these disadvantages, it did not prevent his determination to strive for the best results in class.
His classes begin at 7:00am and finishes at 2:30pm. Tyrone’s parents were not exposed to lateness, thus he grew up disliking the attitude to be late. In school days, he always woke up early and get to school on time. The school was only a few minutes away and that didn’t trouble him. Arriving at school on time makes him have this feeling of being on the safe side. Penalties were given by the teacher to any student who is late without any good reason. He remembers at one time a student was late and he had to collect all the plastic rubbish around the school. He missed valuable class lessons that cause him to fail the subject. High school took Tyrone six (6) years to complete and he was grateful.
After completing his high school year he was accepted at Matevulu College. This college was the countries second best schools. His parents were very proud of his achievements. Nevertheless, he was more proud of himself than them. They show their gratitude by providing him with anything he needs at home and in school.
Unlike Sarakata, Matevulu College had proper buildings which were guarded by fencing along the borders of the school. The school had well ordered classrooms, library, clinic, good sports grounds, farming areas and a dining hall. Mentioning the sports ground, these includes two basketball courts, one tennis and volleyball court, and a soccer like here in Cavite State. The school has a land area of five thousand square meters and about 70% of the area is used for farming.
Crops like cassava, bananas, yams, cucumber and many more are seen in the farming areas. Also there is a coconut plantation in which a part of its area is used for cattle ling and copra production. Most of the meals the students get from the school dining hall are supplied from the school farm. Only rice that is being purchased from the super market in town. But school does not plant rice due to lack of ideas on how to plant rice, and also because of the weather that is not eligible to plant rice.
Apart from farming areas, the school also have the boys and girls dormitory. Tyrone was put to boys called “Merabuto”. The dorm was named after one of the country’s greatest legend. Tyrone was new and young and these experiences were new to him. Growing up with his parents, he was never put alone with strangers to live with them for sometimes. He had no choice since his home was far from school, 50kilometers away. Travelling fort and back from school was a hard job. And Tyrone had no choice but to spend some school years with the big boys. But Tyrone was not scared. He loved adventures and studying new things in life.
There was four of the boy’s dormitory. Every morning before classes begin, each dorm had to take up responsibility by cleaning the inside and outside of the dorms. This was called “morning territories”. There were dorm captains who were voted by the dorm members to instruct and direct their members into performing everything that the school requires for them to do. Being a young teenager, Tyrone began to adapt to this type of environment. One thing that made Tyrone so special was the ability to adapt in any environment. His own rule was, “if don’t adapt, then you are a liability to your society”. He kept on reminding himself, that in order to be a good student, he had to follow every school rule, and be kind to everyone in school.
At one time, while he was doing his first year, there was this kid from the third year who was financially poor. This kid came from a family who were not earning enough money. For about a week that this boy did not attend classes and remain in the dorms due to school fee problems. The school banned him not to go to class and the dining hall. He was just sleeping all the time and whenever he was hungry, he would go search for food in the school farm. Tyrone felt so sorry for him and overed help to him. He gave him some money from his allowance to help him meet his desperate needs and wants. However the boy was pleased with what Tyrone offered and he decided to be Tyrone’s friend. They were good friends, and whenever Tyrone was in trouble, his friend was there to help him.
Matevulu College was full of adventures and opportunities. Unlike Sarakata Primary School, Matevulu College had good graduated teachers. There were only a few of these teachers that Tyrone did not love them. When Tyrone was doing his first year, there was this math teacher who teaches very fast. He uses hard vocabularies when explaining a point, vocabs that only third year or final year student would understand. Tyrone and his class mates find it so confusing and poring but never had the courage to confront him and outburst their trouble. Because of this, nearly all students in Tyrone’s class fail the math subject. But Tyrone did not fail it, his friend from the second year was aiding him every step of the way, by giving him what he needs to pass this math exam.
Tyrone’s second and third year was all about gaining new experience academically and socially. His idea of a boy-girl relationship was an objection. He sees this behaviour as destruction to academic success. However, that was before he met the most beautiful girl of his dreams, Natasha.
Natasha was much younger than Tyrone. She was a year younger and she has some unique characteristics than intrigue Tyrone’s self-consciousness. She was slim with smooth skin, body was like guitar-like-shape, and her smiles were enough to fool a cloze of boys. Though Tyrone admires her, he was a stranger to her. The bright side was, they were both stranger from the same school, and Tyrone thought of that as an advantage in making himself known to her. This was an easy task for him because he too was good looking and handsome.
Every night when he goes to sleep, he always dream about Natasha, how he would expose his feelings for her, and the good times they would have had if they were to begin a relationship. He past objection about the idea had evaporated from his mind and the new thought of wanting this girl so badly grew inside of him like a weed that spreads through wild life. As silence thunders through the night, Tyrone would enjoy his dream as it were time, wanting it not to end but desperately loving the idea of being close to her and exploring all of her sexual behaviours. Waking up in the morning, he would then realized that it was just only a dream and that as this day commence, he would be more practical about his desires about her.
Meanwhile his studies were also improving. While attending college life, most students usually drop out from their good grades when they are into a boy-girl relationship, but not for Tyrone. He was unique. Everything that he does was not meant to be in one stage, but to be perfected into a level that he is satisfied with. Though his grades were good, he was always determining to reach excellence. Also he loved the idea that if a boy is very bright in his grades, then most of the girls from his class and the others from other classes would love him. And so the quest of fulfilling his dreams for Natasha begins. He planned to with Natasha’s intensions for him through being the best and wisest student in his class. Some boys just go up to the girls they love and tell her they loved her, but not for Tyrone. He was going to make Natasha come to him. And that was quiet interesting.
Apart from being unique, Tyrone was also a boy who likes his belongings to be in order. He makes sure that his bed is neat after using it, and folds his drawers accordingly to his choice. He writes up a time table for his classes and also a separated one for revision time. In addition, he puts up relevant and reliable reminders in his room to assist him while being in school. Being in the school, one of Tyrone’s policies was “if you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail”. This puts him on tract that in everything he does, there has to be a plan for it in the first place.
At the end if Tyrone’s second year, he topped the class in overall GPA and he was granted a presidential scholarship. His parents were overjoyed by his performance and they were so surprise of what their son can achieve. And by the beginning of his third year, the school board had decided that all the scholarship students would be assigned to a particular class and presents the tactics they use in achieving their success. This was done during the first day of class commencing. Tyrone was assigned to speak in Natasha’s class.
On knowing this before hand, Tyrone was horrified with excitement. A part of him was shy and scared but the other part was prepared to impress the girl of his dreams. That morning he works up feeling just fine. After taking a bath, and having his breakfast, he sat beside his bed and jot down things he would discuss in his presentation. When satisfying with what he had, it was time for the presentation in Natasha’s class. Natasha’s classroom was not far and he was there on time. The class welcome him in to begin his presentation. While presenting, Tyrone can’t stop himself of putting his eyes on Natasha. Natasha welcomes the eye contact with a smile. The rest of class were so absorbed into his presentation that there were no noises excelling in the room. Tyrone had this feeling that this girl was so into him because she was staring at him with smiles all throughout his presentation. The talk finishes with a loud clapping of hands and cheers here and there from the students. Tyrone takes a deep breath and walked out of the class room. He walk right up to his dormitory and falls breathlessly onto his bed. After gaining constant breathing, he smile to himself and was satisfying with what just happen. That was Tyrone’s first presentation in front to a class and also in front of his dream girl, Natasha.
The next day, he was strolling around school corridors, a girl walk up right to him and gave him a piece of note, she did not say anything about who the letter was from, she just walk off. At that moment, Tyrone’s consciousness tells him that maybe she was from Natasha’s class. He opened the note and read it. The note reads, “Hi Tyrone, I’m impressed with your work and since you are good in math maybe you could give me some tutorials after classes, thanks. Natasha”.
Tyrone jumps for joy when he finishes reading the note. There was this new feeling in him, one that he never felt before. A wildness feeling of excitement and adventure. He smiles to himself thinking that this happened at the night time. Now he knows that they were both attracted to each other.
The tutorials with Natasha were interesting. The more they had tutorials together, the more he was getting to know Natasha better. She was also into him. She likes the idea that he was cute and smart. Natasha also studied the characteristics and behaviours of Tyrone as they go along together.
Third year in college ended up with a school party. Tyrone decided not to attend the party since this was just a minor school activity to him. It took three months for summer holiday. He spent his holiday with his parents. The holiday was very long and Tyrone takes an advantage of resting himself for that period of time. Though there are times, where he had poring moments alone. He usually use this times in doing several things like, playing video games, surfing the internet, watching movies, and many other things to keep himself occupy. Only a week left before Tyrone begin his fourth year in college. He cannot wait to face the last year in college. Each day passed, with Tyrone having a huge excitement within him to take another glance in Natasha’s pretty face. Wondering how her appearance was after the long summer holiday.
Classes begin with a beautiful sunny day which increases the mode of studying. Students are looking forward to complete another year in college. As for Tyrone, this was his last year in college before he left Natasha behind and continued another journey in life. It was a challenging year for Tyrone both in his studies and the feeling of leaving the girl of his dream behind.
Things worked out surprisingly for Tyrone. Natasha admitted to him that she’s in love with him. During the foundation night of the school, Tyrone and Natasha shared what they have in common that have been hidden it inside themselves for years. Life in school becomes more interesting each day. Both of them were really happy that they are now into a relationship.
As time passes by, Natasha was now being affected to the issue that soon Tyrone is leaving college at the end of the year. She always overcomes that feeling inside of her and never told Tyrone about what she had in mind. For Tyrone it was a dream comes true for him to have Natasha as her girlfriend. The attitudes of trusting each other are now growing deeper and deeper within both of them. Tyrone believed that this was a beginning of relationship.
A few months to go before graduation, Tyrone was wondering what will happen after graduating. These questions keep rising inside of him like, how can I find a permanent job for me? How will I get to see Natasha and know if she’s okay? With all these kinds of questions inside of him, he didn’t know that Natasha is also being affected. The graduation process is ongoing and Tyrone really has the feeling of sharing what he has inside of himself to Natasha. So one afternoon while they were having a good time together, he told her about what he had in mind. Natasha also shared what she had been through the past weeks to him. They discussed the matter together and settle everything with both agreeing with the idea of being separated but not to break the strong relationship they have.
Graduation day was unbelievable for Tyrone and his family. His parents have been waiting for this big day in their life because Tyrone is the eldest in the family. They believed that Tyrone has set a good example for his younger brothers and sisters. The graduates were all dressed up in their costumes and were really excited during this day. After all the hardworking in schools, now they were about to receive their bachelor certificate. Tyrone’s name was announced to get a “Bachelor in Architecture”.
After graduation, the road goes on. Children are been taught by their parents to do better in school in order to find a reliable employment. After numerous applications, Tyrone finally receives a letter. The letter was from the National Public Works Department. The department had accepted his application and had granted him a post as a senior construction supervisor. He was pleased with the outcome, and was schedule to an appointment the following week on a Wednesday. When the day arrives, to Tyrone’s surprise, Natasha’s dad was to interview him. Concerning her father, he was already aware of his daughter’s relationship with this boy. However, due to the fact that Tyrone had an outstanding file, Natasha’s dad was satisfy with it and offered him the job.
The story continues endlessly. Through planning and discipline, he was able to attain his goals. No matter much time was required; he was patient with vivid focus to strive for the best. Tyrone lived a happy life after that, he had a beautiful wife and lovely kids whom they themselves have good education. Nothing is better than having a good education.
